The Senior Content Writer is responsible for gathering content requirements, including user, product, and business requirements, and creating content that meets these requirements. Content includes: all text within the products; customer communications, including emails; and release notes and support documentation. The Senior Content Writer creates, organizes, manages, and assures the quality of content. Also contributes to search engine optimization strategy and tactics. Creates online survey questionnaires, analyzes survey findings, and writes reports, working with a small team to plan and implement the surveys. Reviews and edits the work of content deliverables from other team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of content for all assigned projects; responsibilities include facts gathering, quality assurance, file organization and management, writing, editing, proofreading, and final delivery of development-ready files to design and production
  • Gather content requirements, including user requirements from User Experience team members, and business requirements from the business units. Create content that meets these user and business requirements
  • Creates content for all text in products, including instructional text, field labels, help text, and error messages
  • Create and maintain an Editorial Style Guide, including voice and tone
  • Creates content for customer communications, including emails
  • Creates content for release notes, support documentation, and video scripts
  • Creates content for websites and campaigns
  • Optimize scannability of pages; create alt tags, title tags, and meta tags
  • Assure that primary content meets word count and formatting requirements for first-view display
  • Assume primary responsibility for accuracy and validation of all facts in copy, as well as proofreading and copyediting during each phase of project development
  • Proofread and copyedit content files, prototypes, and reports developed by others
  • Maintain well-organized, easy-to-access content file structure based on page flow and wireframe for each assignment
  • Collaborate with information architects, usability engineers, and designers to identify content needs for effective page flow
  • Work with stakeholders to review content, and incorporate appropriate feedback to meet both user and business requirements
  • Acquire an in-depth knowledge of the products and services
  • Provide solutions for text-based usability issues; document solutions for inclusion in the Editorial Style Guide
  • Contribute to the authoring and editing of online survey questionnaires
  • Contribute to search engine optimization strategy and tactics

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience writing for online products, customer communications, and technical documentation
  • Outstanding and versatile writing skills, as evidenced by a solid portfolio
  • Sound working knowledge of online content development and best practices
  • Responsive, positive attitude under time pressure; ability to thrive in a high-performance work group
  • Demonstrated copyediting skills and ability to apply site editorial standards to original and re-purposed content
  • Expert editorial eye and judgment; knowledge of industry standard editorial style resources
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • BA in English, communications, journalism, or related field
  • Proficiency with online editing tools
  • Ability to write clear, well-organized, and detailed reports
  • Experience with search engine optimization best practices
  • Must also provide links to portfolio or sample work history, I.E. Git Hub.

Desired Characteristics

  • Work experience in the online advertising tech industry
  • Experience in graphic design, interactive design, and/or video tutorials
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
  • Ability to rapidly learn and understand new systems
  • Self-starter with the ability to independently identify and act on areas of improvement
