Filmmaking - From Idea to Distribution - Panel Discussion
Join us at WeWork- Hollywood on Wed. 3/27 as producer/event planner, Jed Hammel (Whois Jed Events/Volta Visual), and a diverse panel of producers, videographers, directors, and crew, discuss their filmmaking experience. Topics may include each phase of production, film festivals, distribution, advice for finding work as a freelancer, building your community, and so on. The goal of the event is for the panelists to share their stories, what their suggested Best Practices are, and to hear advice from their experiences in different areas of the film industry
Fancy panelists include:
Cheryl Bedford - Line Producer and Founder of Women of Color Unite and the JTC list (a 500+ strong networking group for Women of Color), former adjunt instructor at UCLA Extension and former Chair of Diversity and Producing Instructor at New York Film Academy
Nicole Castro - Managing Director at the Hollyshorts Film Festival, Hollywood Comedy Shorts Film Festival, and Festival Manager at the Mammoth Film Festival
Joe Cooke - Location Sound Mixer, former audio studio monitor at the Center for Digital Imaging Arts-Boston University
Carl Hanson - Emmy-award winning producer and Director of Production for Fox Sports Films and multi-award winning filmmaker of 48 Hour Film Projects; 2018 Easterseals Disability Film Challenge winner for Best Film featuring differently-abled actors
Yahna Harris - DP/Cam Op and co-founder of 4:3 Collective production company, she has travelled to Haiti and China to make documentaries and has worked on projects with Summits Education, MIT, and Fresh Truck, among others. She continues to freelance and work on her own independent projects.
Jed Hammel - Producer/Director/Editor/Event Planner - Producer of Comic-Con Indie Film Festival Best Short, production office crew credits include "ER" and NBC Late Night ("Tonight Show", etc). Directed/edited videos for Techstars/US Air Force, Alienware/Dell, etc. Founder of the Filmshift Film Festival. Produced or directed indie projects accepted into 100+ indie film festivals.
Underground video/animation VJ EDM artist Bobbie Bunn will be projecting her work throughout the space.
Jed plans these events because he is passionate about creating unique experiences, continually learning from people following their passion, and he believes in the power of bringing people together...and because he is a fan of cheese plates.
(A few daring audience members may be encouraged to do the "We Will Rock You" clap/stomp to welcome our panel to the stage, but we're playing that one by ear.)
